Proud Parents Susan and Erik: I am writing to let you know about how proud we are of Carley, who is in first grade at Peabody and attends karate class there. Carley is very responsible at home.  She is the first one to get up in the morning, and makes her bed, feeds her pets, gets dressed for school, packs her snack, and has her backpack ready, at times before anyone else in the family even gets up.   She helps so much around the house, cleaning her room, doing the laundry, putting her clothes away, drying the dishes, and taking out the trash.  She takes care of her dog, fish, and hamster, feeding them and helping to clean the hamster’s cage.  She is the one to remind us when it is time to clean the cage or clean the fish’s bowl.   Carley practices karate at home, showing us her karate moves and new skills she has learned.  Each week she remembers it is karate class, and packs her karate outfit, without a reminder.  She plays on a basketball team as well, and is always a great sport, trying her hardest and having a positive attitude.  She always pays attention during the game, cheering her team on, even when she has a turn to sit out.  Whatever games she plays, it is important to her that the rules are followed and that everyone is playing fairly.Carley is a very caring child.  She has always been a good friend to all children, regardless of their differences.  She is especially good with young children, and is gentle, sweet, and patient with them.  Carley is very honest and trustworthy as well.  Even when she has done something wrong or has misbehaved, and knows she will have consequences for what she has done, she will tell the truth.Clearly we are a little biased, but we think Carley is the greatest.  She is a very special little girl!

Teacher Liz Long: I am writing on behalf of a student in my first grade class named Carley Nielsen.  I am aware that she is taking Karate at Peabody Charter School and learning about characteristic traits, such as responsibility, caring, fairness, trustworthy, and respect.  When I think of Carley, I think of all of those traits.  As a student, Carley is incredibly responsible.  She always completes all of her assignments perfectly and with care.  She follows direction and is often seen helping others in the class who are struggling or forgot what to do. Carley is incredibly caring.  I remember the day she came to me to let me know that her friend was not feeling well and she was worried about her.  I believe her buddy was too shy to tell me she was feeling sick, so Carley took the initiative to inform me and sure enough, her friend had a fever of 102!  Carley is more than happy to help others, including the teacher.   She is always kind to her classmates and well liked by all her peers.  She is very easy going and excepting of all individuals. We play lots of math games in class and do a lot of partner activities.  She seems to prefer these types of task because she enjoys working with others so much and gets along so well with everyone.  Every time I say we are going to do a math task, she will ask if we are doing it with a partner.  She plays fairly and follows the rules.  She is a GREAT team player. Carley is completely trustworthy.  On her birthday, we went around a circle and said what we appreciated about Carley.  All of the kids commented on what a good friend Carley is to them.  People feel safe around Carley because she is always real and herself.  They enjoy her company because she is such an amazing individual, unique and confident with who she is and excepting of all.  Carley respects the people around her.  She listens and follows direction from her teachers.  She makes her peers feel comfortable and happy.  She makes us all laugh.  Our big buddies are 4th graders and my daughter happens to be in that 4th grade class.  I chose Carley to be my daughters  little buddy because I wanted my daughter to be able to spend time with such a fun, confident, smart, unique and excepting individual.  I feel honored to have Carley in my class and to have had her big sister Piper 2 years ago.  Piper has all of the amazing qualities that Carley has too.  The Nielsen family is an amazing  crew and I am so glad to know them.  They have done an unbelievable job raising two amazing girls who I know will make a difference in our community in the years to come.  They sure have helped make Peabody  a better place to be.  🙂

Thank you for encouraging such important character traits in our youth.  What you do makes a difference.

Congratulations Carley!
Your Proud Sensei,
Brian
