Evan is enthusiastic about karate and is highly motivated to learn. He loves to practice his katas and has a great attitude. He strives to be the best that he can be, and is always working hard at home and at the dojo to improve. He puts his heart and soul into his karate practice and has already learned so much from Sensei Anthony and Sensei Brian.
He’s recently demonstrated an increased ability to maintain focus and is showing great improvement in sportsmanship and teamwork. When asked, “How do we listen?” it’s so nice to hear him say without hesitation, “Eyes, ears, and body.” What we find amazing is that he’s brought that same concept into places like a busy parking lot, or when he’s playing soccer, or listening in the classroom. What he’s learning in karate has visibly translated into all other areas of his daily life.
Since taking karate, he hasn’t missed a day without helping the family in some way. He does his chores now without the need to be asked. He’s been offering to help us with so many new, different things and loves getting the warm, positive feedback from us.
Evan is compassionate. When his friends are having a bad day, he lifts their spirits by offering to play with them. He has a very kind and loving heart. Recently, while riding in the car, he noticed several homeless people on the street and asked us, “Mom, Dad, who will take care of them?” He’s conscientious about the environment. He shows great desire to help our Earth in any way he can, he makes recycling a priority, and harps on his mom for using paper or plastic bags instead of the reusable ones at the grocery store.
Evan learned how to read at the age of four and has helped his kindergarten teacher throughout the year by assisting other students in his class who couldn’t read yet. He’s spent lots of time helping his peers with sight words and has enjoyed helping his friends learn to read.
Evan has shown remarkable improvement in several areas of his life and we’re very grateful for all that karate has done, and will continue to do for him for years to come. We love you, and we’re so proud of you, Evan!
